4. Why invest in IAR Embedded Workbench compared to open-source tools?

Open-source toolchains (GCC, GDB, Eclipse, OpenOCD) are free upfront — but the real cost emerges later. IAR Embedded Workbench delivers measurable value where it matters most:

  • Smaller, faster code — IAR’s compiler typically generates 10–30% tighter and faster binaries than GCC for embedded targets. Critical when flash and CPU cycles are constrained.
  • Pre-qualified for safety standards — IAR’s Functional Safety Edition is certified for ISO 26262, IEC 61508, IEC 62304, EN 50128, and DO-178C. Open-source toolchains need full qualification from scratch — months of effort and substantial cost.
  • Single integrated environment — Compiler, debugger, IDE, libraries, MISRA-C checker, runtime support — one vendor, one support contract, no broken plugins.
  • Real technical support — IAR engineers and Sightsys’s local Hebrew-speaking team respond within hours. Open source means community forums, GitHub issues, or expensive external consultants.
  • Long-term version maintenance — IAR maintains older releases for legacy projects. With GCC, you maintain old branches yourself.
  • Broad architecture support — Including older or niche cores (Cortex-Mx Coretex-Rx, Cortex Ax) with fast and stable envioronment, that is been able to run from IAR IDE or VS code , fleible Linker, and reach debugging capabilities.

For safety-critical or commercially-shipped products, the license cost is typically far less than the developer-time, debug-time, and risk savings. Sightsys helps customers calculate the real ROI for their specific project — including a free evaluation license to benchmark IAR’s code size and performance against your current toolchain. Sightsys provides PikeOS licensing, certification kits, support, training, and integration help. Our team works directly with Israeli embedded teams on safety-critical projects.

8. Which tools does Sightsys recommend for ISO 26262 automotive compliance?

For ISO 26262 automotive projects (ASIL A through ASIL D), Sightsys recommends a complete qualified toolchain:

  • IAR Embedded Workbench functional-safety edition — compilation
  • Solid Sands SuperTest / SuperGuard — compiler and library qualification
  • Axivion — static analysis for MISRA-C and CWE rules
  • Cantata — unit testing with MC/DC coverage
  • SYSGO PikeOS — when hypervisor-based isolation is needed

Sightsys engineers in Israel support every tool in the chain.

9. Does SEGGER offer a TÜV-certified RTOS for safety-critical projects?

Yes. SEGGER offers embOS-SAFE. It is the pre-certified safety version of the standard embOS RTOS. The microkernel is independently certified by TÜV SÜD for safety-critical software. As a result, project teams gain immediate evidence of toolchain integrity for their certification audit.

embOS-SAFE is qualified to the major international safety standards:

  • IEC 61508 SIL 3 — industrial process control and machinery
  • ISO 26262 ASIL D — automotive electronics and ADAS
  • EN 50128 / EN 50657 SW-SIL 4 — railway signalling and rolling stock
  • IEC 62304 Class C — medical device software
  • IEC 60730 Class B and Class C — household appliances and white goods

Every embOS-SAFE license ships with a complete certification kit. The kit includes TÜV certificates, the safety manual, the verification and validation report, and traceability documentation. Engineers can therefore submit pre-built evidence to their notified body.

Importantly, embOS-SAFE keeps the same API as standard embOS. Teams can therefore migrate an existing embOS prototype to the certified version without code changes. Furthermore, the pre-certification dramatically reduces project effort, cost, and time-to-certification. Sightsys provides embOS-SAFE licensing, the full certification kit, technical support, and certification consultation in Israel.

11. Does Sightsys provide JTAG boundary-scan test development services in Israel?

Yes. Sightsys provides full JTAG boundary-scan test development services, built on the Corelis ScanExpress platform. Our team writes the actual test scripts that verify every device on your PCB is correctly soldered, connected, and electrically sound.

Boundary-scan is complementary to traditional bed-of-nails ICT — not a replacement. Together they deliver complete board coverage: ICT handles passive components, analog circuits, and power rails where probes can reach. Boundary-scan covers what probes cannot — BGA pins, fine-pitch interconnects, and densely-routed nets without test pads.

Our service includes DFT consultation, BSDL collection and validation, interconnect and cluster test scripts, in-system programming (flash, CPLD, FPGA), production-line integration, and engineer training.

As a result, Israeli electronics manufacturers gain a complete answer to one critical question: “are all the devices on this board correctly connected?”. Whether you build defense communication systems, medical devices, automotive ECUs, or industrial controllers, boundary-scan testing replaces or supplements traditional bed-of-nails fixtures. It catches BGA solder faults, hidden shorts, and broken nets that visual inspection and standard ICT cannot detect.
